The Little Things

Like many of you know I am a new runner.  Already I have gained a HUGE appreciation for many simple things. My goal for the next 5 days is to spotlight what I have already gained a better appreciation for!

While on my first outside run I really took note of all the beauty that surrounded me, as I ran in the beautiful world we live in. I looked at all the trees in bloom, the green grass, the birds flying, the lawn mowers mowing, the children playing, and the dogs barking.
I myself find that I get way to busy in my day to day life to slow down and notice these things. I find I'm to busy getting kids here and there, running late, or annoyed by things around me. So the first spotlight goes to the beauty we have to enjoy our runs in! It sure beats the treadmill :)

What are some of your favorite things you have seen on your runs?

Today for my workout I worked my arms and abs along with 30 minutes on the elliptical. My workout today burned approximately 488 calories. It was a hard workout to mentally get through today. I didn't want to be there and went with a headache! After I felt 10x's better and was so glad I went. My daily caloric intake today was 1538. I am sure as I start running harder and longer, I will need to up my calories. However for the workout load I'm doing now I feel full satisfied :)

I wouldn't call it my favorite thing, but I definitely saw a girl doing the walk of shame one Sunday morning and chuckled a little bit.

I'm glad you found my blog, Lindsay! You totally inspire me - in a lot of ways, I feel we are on the same journey! You weigh a lot less than me, but I burned 1237 calories this past Saturday running my 8-miler, so yeah...you will definitely need to up your calories as you increase your mileage! Happy trails and I will definitely be reading your blogs and cheering you on!

You look familiar to me. You'll have to email and tell me where you live (ihaverun@hotmail.com). I wonder if we have crossed paths somewhere (I live in PG).

I love the flower photographs. We ran through flowers along a trail yesterday and it really was one of the most beautiful runs I've had in a long time. Very simple, very fun. Thanks for the great reminders, simplicity is the secret!

I haven't, unfortunately, been for an outdoor run in a long time. Now that the weather is getting nicer, I need to do that! :)

Thanks for stopping by my blog! I love the flowers too right now! I run when it is still dark so I see with my nose right now! :) There are a lot of wonderful smells, along with not so wonderful i.e. manure! But all signs of spring!

What a great story you have to share and inspire with. I look forward to following you on your journey! :)

And your banana bread recipe sounds yummy. I love banana bread.

Hey Lindsay!

Good luck with the half marathon! I just started running a couple of years ago too and ran my first full marathon last year. I am having another baby in a few weeks and SO look forward to being able to run again when I can. So, if you need a running partner I'll come with you!! :)

I'm excited to see how things go!

Oh wow. I stopped by to see who was leaving nice comments on my blog and I didn't expect to find a kick-butt runner who has lost 100+!

Congrats! And enjoy your running. I'm glad you enjoy it, and keep it up!

I think it's awesome that you've been able to really slow down and experience the present moment during your runs! It's one of the reasons I love running so much - it helps me to be more mindful of my current experiences and to remember what life is all about.

I think it happens all too often that people find themselves living in the past or the future, and missing out on the present moment.. there's just so much pressure in todays world to get things done! But sometimes it's really refreshing to just take a step back and appreciate life in the moment.

Anyway, I'm glad to hear you've been having such great runs - I hope it continues!!! :)
