Diet Coke

Today I had woken up gotten my house all cleaned and left to run my errands . Childless mind you my baby started kindergarten :( It was WAY to quiet to sit home alone so what's a girl to do...... I get into my car, crank some tunes and have a mouth watering CRAVING for a Diet Coke!!!!!
I have not had one in FOREVER!!!! I even sent out text informing my friends of what I was about to do! This was a BIG deal for me. Needless to say I pulled up to my normal drink stop, and they greeted me with "32 oz water extra ice, fat straw?" NOPE not today I want a 32 oz Diet Coke extra ice with a shot of vanilla!!!! They tell me it's $1.16 dang my water is only .25 who cares I can not wait to drink this Diet Coke they hand me the drink and I go to set it down and ALMOST dump the WHOLE thing. . . . I saved it :) They reminded me see there is your sign you shouldn't drink Diet Coke!!!!! WHATEVER today I made a conscious choice to love the Diet Coke.  I held it, I drank it sooooo slow I wanted it to last. I headed into Tj Maxx for some shopping I debated leaving my drink in the car.....NOPE I didn't want it to melt and become watery. It sat in my cart and shopped with me :) THEN.......as I went to pick up my clothes to try on my Diet Coke SPILLED on the floor the whole thing DUMPED!!!!!
It was over half full SERIOUSLY?????  I had to laugh as I wiped the floor up. The drink people were right starting the good old Diet Coke was a BAD idea!!!! Tonight as I write this I am still totally bummed that my nice fresh Diet Coke is sitting in the garbage can at the local Tj Maxx!!!!

So I wanna know do you love your Diet Coke???
Should I be getting me another one to replace todays mishap? Or take it as a MAJOR sign to stay away!!!!

  1. Hahaha! That's awesome! I say have one a week. It's safe, non-addictive... :) But since you only got less than half you better even it out tomorrow! Enjoy - maybe I'll join you!

  2. I say, if you can go without it, then you should. I normally have around two a day, but I am allergic to the fake sugar. It gives me the worst tummy ache. But I am addicted!! Stay clear if you can. It's healthier.

  3. I'm more of a Coke fan, I find diet sodas taste fake. If it spilled I think it was a sign and gthe fact that you didn't go and get a nother means that you did not need it. I hate when something yummy falls on the floor. ARRGGHHHH!

  4. Isn't it weird how things turn out like that?! I don't think there's anything wrong with treating yourself once in a blue moon, but it seems like all odds were against you today!

BTW, don't care too much for DC. I would much rather have a regular coke...

  5. You should try it again! Treating yourself once ina while is a great thing for your mental state :) Besides, you deserve it, sending your little one off to school...

    I love coke zero myself!

  6. I very rarely drink soft drinks, but occasionally get 1/2 diet, 1/2 regular (makes it taste so much better, trust me!). I'm a big believer in treating myself every once in awhile to something that may not be so good for me, but sounds really good at the time. Quarter pounder with cheese, anyone?

  8. So sorry for the repeat post -- I swear, my computer is possessed this morning :)

  9. Yep, it was a sign to let it go and leave it be. I do not love it and shall hope that should I start to drink one that a freak wind come upon me and spill it all bout my clothes. Perhaps then that'll be the last time I touch the evil that is soda.

  10. i am all about the diet coke! i definitely need a can (or two!) to get through the day

  11. I try to go without it, but let myself have up to 1 can/day, although my soda of choice is cherry coke zero. I'd like to completely break the habit, but hasn't happened.

  12. I vote stay away. There are many other great "treats" out there. Just because it is diet, doesn't make it safe. The caffeine alone depletes a lot of your vitamin and mineral stores that are essential to your exercising.

Besides, people who are addicted to it would do anything to have a say whether they had one or not. You have that choice today, if you start now, you may not have that choice down the road. Don't break what's already fixed?

  13. I love diet coke. I go through periods where I don't drink it at all and then all of a sudden I NEED one. Like after my 6 hour training day last Saturday! I hear that flat coke is the necture of the gods during the Ironman run...but it's also part crack and once you start on it you put yourself on this sugar high roller coaster so it's best to stay off it as long as possible.

I think I would take the spillage as a sign. Savor your few sips and forget about it again!

  14. There are moments for me that I do have a craving for one. My favorite thing is a dark hershey's kiss and then a vanilla coke zero, for some reason, it is the best.

  15. I know what you mean about having the taste for a soda. last month I went on a ginger ale binge. It was sooo good with lots of ice. I'd add so much ice that 1/2 way through it was watered down and I ended up pouring out most of it.

However, the health gods were acting in your favor. Stay away from the diet coke!

  16. I know there will be mixed reactions to this one... Personally, I love Diet Coke. I love a 32oz diet coke after a long run! Fountain is the best. There are so many things I could have instead, I LOVE IT and won't give it up. It does actually keep you hydrated, too -- there's more water in a diet coke than you would lose from the caffeine.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I do the 1/2 diet 1/2 regular thing too! I'll actually do 3/4 diet and 1/4 regular and it makes the whole thing taste like regular...if you like that sort of thing :) Soda can be addicting, but I wouldn't take your drink spilling as a "sign." Sometimes a girl just needs a diet coke!

  18. Diet pepsi - mmmmm. I love it. But I only allow myself it when I am going on a long road trip (8+ hours, not just to the grocery store) or for the two weeks we go camping in the summer (when I drink one daily). I totally could become a daily DP drinker, so I need strict limits that still allow me to indulge!

  19. I'm all about my diet coke! There is even a gas station near my house that has caffeine free and vanilla shots so I frequent that place. I knew I couldn't give up diet coke completely so now I have a "on the weekend's only" rule. And if I'm really good and get all of my water in for Friday, the weekend can start at 4:00 PM.

  20. Love Love my Diet Coke as well. I love it with ice and a straw! I say try try try again!

  22. Try Diet Doctor Pepper instead!

  23. I used to drink one or two everyday and cut it out completely about a month ago. Surprisingly, I hardly miss it at all, except when I'm out to eat at a restaurant, then for some reason I really really crave it!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I do not drink diet coke, in fact I rarely drink soda at all. I personally think it is a sign to stay away! ;-) I have read that diet drinks make it harder to lose weight. I am not sure if that is true or not, but it is added incentive to me to not even start.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I love fountain diet coke. Not such a fan when it's out of a can or bottle. I'm bad and have about 1 a day everyday at lunch. I savor that lunch time liquid deliciousness.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I gave up Diet coke once. It was one of the longest days of my life.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Ack! I think it's a sign to give it up. I managed to wean myself off of it a few months ago and I still get cravings, so, you know...easier said than done. Sometimes I put lime juice in my water if I want a flavour (lame!). ;)

  28. You know what made me FINALLY kick the habit? A study reported (I think it was on a local chanel) that they found more bacteria on the soda fountain machines than ON. A. Toilet! (google it) Now, once in a while I'll have a can, but never the 32 oz.ers that I used to love!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I love diet Dr. Pepper. I did a post about it on Monday... but tonight I poured it down the drain! I've never tried diet coke... I better keep it that way ;)

  30. I just don't get a lot of the hate for the diet cola. It's got fake sugar and carbonation in it, as well as some flavoring, but it's cola. People have been drinking it for about what, 100 years now? I'm not a big fan of coke or pepsi (unless you add a little spiced rum and ice, then I become an instant fan!)

Have it if you like it, but if you feel it's stalling your health goals, avoid it.

  31. It's funny you should mention this because whenever I drink soda (well, most times), I find myself somehow "accidentally" spilling it. And every time I think "maybe it's my subconscious telling me NOT to drink it!!"

    ReplyDelete
  32. I am a MASSIVE Diet Coke addict. I quit smoking easier than Diet Coke. I will defend to the death my right to kill myself with phosphorus, carmel coloring, saccharine and caffiene! :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. I don't drink it because I don't like the taste, but if I liked it I don't see harm in drinking it once in a while. If you crave it don't deprive yourself or you won't be happy.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'm on a plan where I haven't had DC for 2 weeks after drinking it like water. And I don't miss it! (though I have too much coffee, too)

I think on a subconscious level, you interpret the spill as a sign...and you know the real answer already.

  35. I used to drink 9-12 diet cokes a day and in the last few months have replaced them with a camelback water bottle. I do give in every couple days and enjoy a can of greatness...

    ReplyDelete
  36. I drink a Coke Zero or a Diet Coke once a week or so. I used to drink two or three Zeros a day so I've really cut back. If you're still craving the Diet Coke, I say roll with it and get another one. It's so funny how things work out sometimes.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Ha...I think it's funny that people call it poison. Though I drink mostly water, I do LOVE a good diet pepsi...coke is WAY to strong :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. I prefer to stay away from carbonated drinks they just make me gag altogether. Plus, my hubby always tells me that drinking soda will make me a slower runner so since I am already slow I rather not make myself slower.

Having said the above: my drink of choice is Propel water. Whenever I finish a good race or have a really great workout, I like to reward myself with a nice cold propel water.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I am a rare pop drinker but once in a while I crave it also...I prefer something w/ lime in it like Pepsi w/ lime or my fav is Schweppes gingerale w/ lime :D ...
BTW, your header progress pics are SOOOOOOOOOO inspiring!!!! Whoa!! Thanks for sharing them! You look amazing!
    I love the transformation!

  49. My baby just started Kindergarten too :(
I'd say it's fine to give in once in a blue moon to a treat of DC. It's not like you'd be jumping off the deep end.
I'd say today was just a sign that you should wait and have one when you can really enjoy it, not on the run.
    Have a great weekend!!!

  54. An occasional coke is probably okay, but that all sounds like a sign to give them up.

I was a diet pepsi junkie for decades. I was drinking 3-5 a day. I've been soda free for 23 days now and I am feeling so much better and I don't miss it at all!

  55. This is such a great story! haha! I am also off the diet coke. I LOVE me a diet coke! I also was getting serious about my heath so after all of the warnings I quit. cold turkey. I have been craving one for the past week... but I stayed strong! ( : I kid you not, I almost hopped in the car today to go ot McDonalds just for a diet coke.
I am taking this as a sign... no more diet coke for us!
    Have a pretty day!

  56. I am a huge diet Coke freak consumer... The very first thing I did when I began my journey to huge weight loss was to ditch the diet Coke (poison).

Now, that means I ditched it by 99%. Last night I had two cans, but daily I only drink water.

You've already accomplished what I aim to accomplish, which is to lose a total of 100 pounds. I am3 35% of the way there as of today.

Anyway, I will be following your blog, because you're successful. I really admire the quote you placed in your site header. Inspiring.

  60. I LOVE my diet coke. In fact, I had to click over here to this blog, just because I saw that it was about diet coke. I usually have one per day, around lunch time. I love it with vanilla, but I also enjoy it plain. I'm trying to quit the diet coke, so my next step I think will be to just have 4 per week instead of every day.
