Planning

After my last vacation I realized I was thinking I was better then I really am and could eat whatever whenever because I was on vacation! I learned a HUGE lesson that I already knew, a little thing called plan ahead!!!
So the past few days we have been out of town in Park City
When I booked our stay I made sure to book a place with a full kitchen! It really has made our vacation much more healthy! I made a menu of meals before we left, brought food from home and shopped more up here.        I had a PLAN!!!
I also made sure I had access to a gym.  Last night I was able to do the elliptical,  work chest, back and swim a few laps! I have to say it has made my vacation much more enjoyable and guilt free. I know my last trip I was SO hard on myself, beat myself up for eating bad and then I was grumpy. It has MADE it much better to plan. We planned to eat out dinner 1 night and when we went out to eat, I shared mine with my son. I was able to leave satisfied and guilt free. I even had a bite of dessert!!!
We even had a movie night up here that was planned ahead!  My treats were triscuts, grapes, 1 slice of pepper-jack cheese. grapes and beef jerky! I was able to have healthy snacks during the movie.

I have to say planning makes a world of difference!

Do you plan ahead?

I love planning! I just planned out all my meals and snacks for my upcoming camping trip, and now I need to start thinking about my pan of attack for my trip to NYC (that one will be a little more challenging).

That snack plate looks yummy :)

Good thinking with the kitchen and the gym! It's not always easy to stick with the healthier lifestyle. Excuses come so readily. In the long run though when we do what we know we should, things generally turn out more enjoyable (as you are finding).

Yes, I totally plan ahead. We never stay anywhere that does not have either a full kitchen or at the very least, a mini-fridge and microwave. Planning travel via the internet, those places are easy to find. We do it not only to maintain healthy eating while traveling, but to save money. Restaurant eating for even a few days can add a huge sum to a vacation budget. An added bonus is that these types of accommodations are generally larger and more comfortable than standard hotel rooms.

Planning is key. We make our meal plan on Sundays then go grocery shopping. It's easy! I just portioned out bags of fruit for snacks. And I love cooking/making meals on vacation- it's cheaper too!

Your movie snack looks YUMMY!

I'm a big planner...I map out what we're all going to eat for the week/weekend. It makes my time much less stressful, and if there is healthy stuff in the house, I'm guranteed to eat it!

I am learning to plan better. It makes me feel so good when I actually do what I say I need to do. This past week we were on vacation and we planned all our activities and food. We were successful, we did everything we said we would do and we only had 1 bad meal. Usually during vacation, I might have 1 good meal and the rest bad.

Not normally, but I will this vacation. It only takes one bad vacation to realized....I NEED TO PLAN AHEAD!!! Thanks for the reminder. I will be adding beef jerky to my list of yum foods!! By the way...do you count calories?

GREAT planning. The jerky is actually making my stomach growl. I try to plan, but planning just isn't in my nature. Go figure.

We planned ahead for our beach vacation. We had a kitchen and went with our menu for the week planned out. We bought groceries and cooked all but one meal. I ran twice that week and used the resort gym. I agree that it does make for a more guilt free vacation!

Awesome job planning ahead! I try to plan ahead but it always turns into a "it's vacation we can have this" situation. This year I'm will be better!

I try to plan ahead. The rest of my family who doesn't run, or race however thinks vacation is a great time to throw caution to the wind. They are NOT helpful.
Good for you!!

Great post on planning! I love to plan and am not sure how I would manage to do it all if I didn't. I'm leaving for Hawaii tomorrow and need to finish my meal plans also. I likely will not be detailed with the meals but need some kind of a plan in order to set myself up to succeed :) The snacks look yummy!

Planning IS the key. I went on vacation and stayed ON PLAN, and just got back from girls camp where I stayed ON PLAN because I planned and prepared! Way to go. I love that plate of snacks... yummy!

I am a BIG planner and my husband isn't. So I think we balance one another out nicely. I get him to be more organized and he gets me to chill out a little!

we are going to the beach in a week. We are going to bring workout videos to do, so that we are not back at square one when we get back. vacations can really ruin all the hard work, planning is so important!! Way to go on your planning!!

This is such a timely post! I/our family doesn't plan ahead as much as we should. Fortunately, my eating plans keep me grounded and I DO NOT take off vacation time from my plan.

Awesome job! I have to say that I just eat and eat on my trips and feel guilty! However, I never seem to learn my lesson! I love your approach...I will have to "plan ahead" next time! =)

I've been trying to plan better. I noticed that for the weeks I planned my meals, I stayed on track. For the past few weeks I've been eating all willy nilly.

I have an upcoming vacation to Seattle - yeehaw! I lucked up because my boss let me use his hotel points for my stay!!! The Marriott is a full-suite hotel with full kitchen. My guy and I are super stoked because it will help cut down food costs. So I am planning on packing oatmeal for sure and we will pick up other items once we get there. Looking forward to hiking Mt. Rainier!!!

Planning is something I've been trying to work out for our trip to the States later this year. It's hard when shops, restaurant chains and food brands are unfamiliar. My plan is to buy and esky (cooler) to make myself a bit more independent foodwise and to wear my pedometer so that I can aim for my 10000 steps even if I don't have the opportunity to do any formal exercise. Am packing a resistance band and am thinking of doing a challenge like 100 push ups to give me a do anywhere fitness goal. A room with a kitchen is a fantastic idea.
