Mental Game

Today I had planed a 3.5 mile run! I was so ready for it. I laced up my shoes and off I went! I felt great, the weather was PERFECT, and I found my groove quickly.
I didn't plan on running the whole thing. However as I would reach a certain point along the route I would talk to myself saying if you just make it to that light pole then you can stop and walk, okay you made it to the light pole and your still going Lindsay you can go further go to the stoplight! I would make it to the light and still be okay. I played the MENTAL game a few times along the route. Guess who won that MENTAL GAME??? ME LINDSAY WON round 1 of the MENTAL game. I NEVER EVER stopped running.  I really can see after my run today, why people say running  is such a MENTAL thing. I felt awesome after!

My stats ended up at:
3.5 miles exactly
40:51 minutes
I am still super slow. I am not worrying about how long it takes me to get it done as long as I get it done. I am a beginner and want to take it sloooooow :)

Did everyone have a good Saturday run?

* The giveaway ends tomorrow so make sure to enter :)

Thanks for posting this, I needed to read it today! I've been so discouraged by my slow running and major lack of endurance and thinking about throwing in the towel for a different type of exercise. Maybe I just need to win the mental game!

You prove that it can be done!

Isn't it a great feeling?!?! I've been running intervals - 3 min run/1 min walk and I did a 5k race with the goal of running the entire thing. I managed that - and now I keep pushing myself more and more - usually in the min. dept. But now that I *know* I can run...I do!! ok, still slow as heck, but hey!

I am a super slow runner, but my motto is "slow and steady to FINISH THE RACE."

I was supposed to do 9 miles today, but the humidity got to me, so I stopped at 3 and went to the gym instead. I have to get over the humidity thing, though, cuz I'm facing a whole summer of it. You are right ... it is mental and I won't let it defeat me tomorrow when I do finish the 9! Have a fantastic weekend!

Bravo! Don't ever say you are slow. You run at the speed that you need to at any given time. Speed comes with time. :D

Go girl!! I just started running and to say that I'm SLOW is a severe understatement. I'm taking it nice and easy. GOOD JOB! :)

Really did a great job! I play mind games all of the time.

I wrote about the mental aspects of running just last week on my blog.

Check it out if ever get a chance!

Really cool! What a great feeling! I can't wait until I can post that about my runs - hopefully only a couple of months away once I am fully recovered from my surgery :)

Very encouraging! And it's so great that you have an awesome and supportive husband! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Hi Lindsey, thanks for stopping by my blog! You have made amazing progress - so don't worry about being what you think of as "slow" - trust me, your speed will improve little by little all by itself if you are consistent with your running. That is one of the neatest things about running, seeing yourself improve over time. Good luck on training for your first half marathon!

I saw you on GTU and will now be and frequent follower of your blog. After having 2 kids in 16 months (my 3 and 4th), I had 70 pounds to lose. I'm down nearly 30 since January but still have miles to go. Literally.

I just started training for a 5K and am jogging for the first time in 4 years. I look forward to training right along side you. Can you post your itunes list? I am interested in getting some ideas of what to add to my ipod.

Thanks for the inspiration!
