Are You Finding Happiness Today?

"Happiness doesn’t depend on what we have, but it does depend on how we feel towards what we have. We can be happy with little and miserable with much." –W.D. Hoard

How often do you find yourself saying "I'll be happy when...."?

We tend to tell ourselves oh I'll be happy when I loose 10 pounds, or when I have more definition, or when I shave a minute off my time. Better yet when I loose weight my house will always be clean, or I will be a better/nicer mom when I loose weight, I will be way more organized. I will do more, I will take pride in how I look when I actually look and feel good!!!

Then you get to this point and you want MORE!!!! Or you are unhappy that you STILL are unhappy when you reach these points. I am guilty of this too! Now don't get me wrong, it's very important to PUSH ourselves and challenge ourselves daily.  However it can NOT be our focus, our focus needs to be in the in the moment today. Not next week or the next 5 pounds, or when I am better, stronger, faster.  We need to be happy with what we gave and achieved today. For our tomorrows could be taken from us, and we will have never found that happiness. Each individual person is responsible for their own happiness. Happiness is provided by oneself not by others. We can either choose to be happy or choose to be unhappy.  Lately I have really been trying to focus on what I have accomplished or achieved. I am trying not to dwell on where I could be or what I could have done. I am trying to find peace and happiness in today.  Some days this is a challenge! We are people who always desire more. So I am flipping this challenge.
I challenge you and me both to find the joy and successes in today!

It's important that we give our best everyday and try our hardest each and in every way. If we can go to bed at night knowing we gave it our all.  We will be at peace with ourselves and  be a little stronger and a little better tomorrow! For we know today we gave it our ALL!!!

How are you going to find happiness today?

I'm up for this challenge...mind over matter right!! :O)

I'm finding happiness today by standing up for myself and saying what's on my mind (whether the reciepiant (sp?) wants to hear it). I'm not being mean about what I have to say (because I believe you can get your point across without being a jerk) but I'm not hiding!

Have a great week.

I'm finding happiness today by living in the now, not stressing over what all I need to do, and remembering that God is blessing me and that He is doing awesome things in my life.

What a brilliant post. This is something that I try to do.

Being in an attitude of gratitude for the gifts I enjoy each and every day. It isn't always easy but it something to strive for.

Today my happiness is in checking off some of the things on my to do list!

Great post!

I will find happiness waiting for the wife to come home from school by relaxing on the couch with my dogs after lifting weights tonight.

I so agree that happiness is a state of mind not material possessions.

Thank you for the great post! I agree! Though many times I have fallen victim to this vicious trap... "I'll be happy when..." But happiness is more than "when" happiness has to be now and in any situation.

happiness today is ... having my pants be too big (I should have bought the smaller size lol). And finger painting with my son

That was a great blog post. I do this often. I have to keep reminding myself how far I have come not how far I still have to go. Thanks for the reminder. :)

Great post!

I'm finding happiness today in the little things.... My puppies being excited to see me when I wake up, the laughter of school children playing before school, great conversations and the fact that I am healthier than I was a month ago. : )

Love the post Lindsay - I am happy today because:

1. I work with great people
2. My lovely boyfriend offered to do the grocery shop for me
3. I am doing a new walking route tonight
4. My little cat is getting better (he was very sick on the weekend and needed a visit to the vet)

The key word for me is contentment. I may not always be happy, but I can be content in all circumstances (as Paul said.) :-)

Thanks so much for all of your sweet comments!

I like to find the positive in every situation. Life is too short to be bogged down with the negative.

Great post!

Hi! Read through several of your posts to catch up with you today! Love the new look of your blog. Love the qoute on the header...and the qoute today! I say the "I'll be happy when..." alot. Mostly related to getting some bills paid off!
Running in the hail sounds bad...but you made it through...you are tough and determined for sure. Love that!
Also love that yellow purse a few posts back!
Have a great day!

I agree with you! It's so important to find/make your own happiness, and that happiness doesn't have to be dependent on your weight. Sometimes people think that their miserable life is suddenly going to be fabulous if they just lose weight... then they lose weight & their life is still crappy! It's not all about the weight, you gotta look at the big picture!

I'm late, but I'm finding happiness today because my boys and I had a "dance party", my house is cleaner than it's been in awhile, and my running buddy called and wants to meet back up and get back at it!

My new favourite quote is: "Life is how you spend your days living." It echoes the same sentiment you're talking about. Why wait for the next 10 pounds? Why wait for the next big exciting thing to happen? Life is happening right now - so enjoy those little moments that make life life!

I love this post! It's a great reminder to just enjoy the here and now. Sometimes I tire myself out by always wanting to do more and be more and have more! So it's good to just relax and reflect on how blessed we are at this moment.

What a great reminder to us all! Today I am happy that I followed through with a treadmill workout when I didn't feel like going out in 30-degreeC heat. And I am happy that I have some new blog followers to keep me motivated. :)
